Humazapas presents contemporary innovations in traditional Kichwa indigenous music and dance from the Andes mountains of northern Ecuador

Humazapas is one of Ecuador's leading performing groups. They beautifully interpret the Kichwa indigenous dance and music of Ecuador's highland community of Cotacachi, a city and county located in the nation's northern province of Imbabura. Their avante guard musical innovations are unique in the genre of Ecuadorian and Andes Mountains traditional music.

Celebrating ten years of researching and interpreting their Kichwa traditions, in June of 2023 Humazapas released its first album, Sara Mama, (the harvest of the corn) on the AYA Records label.

Humazapas' many stage presentations include a well-received tour of France in the fall of 2022. The group also toured Mexico in November of 2023. They performed in Colombia in early 2024.

Kichwa-speaking Ecuadorians number around 1.5 million people out of Ecuador's total population of 17 million. Imbabura province is one of the leading indigenous cultural centers in the Americas.
